HP documentation suggests resetting the device to factory settings, (which is in a password protected area, no go) or resetting the NVRAM by pushing right arrow and cancel while starting the device. The M475dn is a touch screen device, and the right arrow and cancel are softkeys which do not seem to initialize until after the NVRAM is loaded. I humored the technician anyway, but as I suspected, after 3 attempts, I decided this was not a viable option.
