We have almost 30 label printers out in our shops that are a mixture of Seiko Smart Label Printer 440 and 650. We're using the SLP-SLR labels (2 1/8" x 4") to tag parts, material, and pallets out in our shops in conjunction with Seagull Bartender.
Up until now the Seiko printers have worked really well for us. Even though the 440s are really not meant for shop environments, that have been super durable over the last few years. The fact that they are direct thermal printers makes it easy for shop workers to change the SLP-SRLB rolls on the SLP-TRAY we have at each printer.
The 650s seem to be far less durable than the 440s were. The motors are overheating and burning out quickly. It seems like we burn through one every 1-2 months now. They may be cheap, but burning through them is starting to cost more than we want. The 440s never...
