Our sales service department has received a new network printer. Simple enough. I setup the new printer and copy over the static IP from the previous printer. Here is where it gets strange. The old printer prints just fine, however the new printer is not pingable. I plugged the new printer into a different port and it works fine. It is pingable with the old Static IP and prints jobs. Switch it back to the port that had the old printer, and no go. No activity, not pingable, completely unrecognizable.
I thought maybe there was an entry in an ARP table that was preventing this. I kept the printer off of the port for 15 minutes to let ARP tables clear, plugged the new printer in and nothing. I plugged the old printer, and it immediately picks up print jobs.
I tried different cables on both the patch panel side and the port to printer side....
