I have a slightly unusual requirement.
We need to monitor users on the network (some in remote locations over the WAN) that have label printers shared through their computers. These are USB connected and not ethernet connected printers.
We need to be alerted when either the computer or the printer become unavailable.
I am not sure if Spiceworks can do this and have also been looking at other opensource monitoring products like Zabbix and Zenoss.
Although the requirement can be met by setting up Collection Sets with Alerts on the machines under Performance Monitor, the client wants a more enterprise centrally managed solution. We can install agents on all the target computers if required.
Any ideas?
