My printer can be hacked? So what? All they can do is wastepaper and ink. Think again.

The multifunctional device is no longer a box in the cornerfor printing and copying, it’s now a monster that can also allow mobileprinting, scan to email, scan to network drives, scan to Google Doc’s, OneDriveetc – the list goes on.

Now although this is all very clever, it opens some seriousnetwork and privacy concerns. Most of these devices come with numerous networkprotocols as standard. These include FTP (File Transfer Protocol – Port 21),SMB (Server Message Block – Port 445), SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol– Port161), LPD (Line Printer Daemon – Port 515), IPP (Internet Printing Protocol –Port – 631), JetDirect aka RAW or AppSocket(Port – 9100) and again the list goes on.
