We standardized on Dell 2335dn MFP's a few years ago for small workgroup and department printers. At the time they lured us in with their low cost and great warranty. This was possibly the worst decision ever.
I don't think we have had one of these that we haven't replaced during it's life for either jamming constantly or burning up the fuser. These machines also are toner hogs. We purchase the high capacity 6k page toners but if we get half of that, I am surprised. Overall they are cheap crappy printers. Dell does honor the warranty on them and is quick to send out a replacement but it is not worth our time anymore. Rant over.
So I'm looking for a replacement model. Print volume is not that high on most of these machines but we do use the scan/email function quite a bit. We have used Brother machines in the past and have been happy but I'm not sure if they offer an extended warranty. HP machines have always been great for us but the price is pretty steep on those. Let me know what you guys recommend with the following requirements
1. Cost under $500 with a three year warranty - The one thing Dell has going for them is their warranty, I'd like to have something comparable.
2. Abiity to print, fax, copy, scan, email - Email is important here. I'm trying to move everyone away from using fax machines so I want to show them an easier alternative.
3. Toner cost, high yield toner - Would prefer a 6-10k toner to keep the maintenance and costs down.
4. Reliable - I'm sick of messing with printers. Give me something that just works.
