I have a printer server named "SERVER1" setup and working great. Clients can install printers and print to these printers just fine. I added an DNS Host record to our DNS server named "PRINTSERVER" and pointed it to the IP of the print server. I then browse via windows explorer to \\PRINTERSERVER and double click a printer to install it using this path. (I also get the same error when adding a CNAME record and doing the same thing.) I get the following error message:

"Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000709). Double check the printer name and make sure that the printer is connected to the network."

Any idea why i can't install the printer under this alternate DNS name and how to resolve it?

I am relocated by my department to a new remote location where i met this sharp mx-m453u printer. I want to print with the printer through USB from a laptop. The printer driver is installed and the printer is showing on the computer and ready. But when ever i try to printer, it dosnt go to the printing showing error. Any idea whay the issue could be?

Just wondering what every one uses to track what printers they have like: IP address, location, inservice date etc. Right now we use HP webjet admin and an excel spreadsheet with info on the printers.

Adding a Citizen printer CTS 310 type II on Windows 7 through usb.

Getting the error message "print driver was not installed operation "0x00000002"

I have removed and reinstalled driver but keep getting this message. 

I remote in and install printers for customers all day and this is the first time I've seen this message.

Hi Spiceheads!

I need to purchase an all-in-one printer for the boss. He's very particular about his needs. I've purchase three so far and they've all been rejected after a day or two of service. Here's the models and the reasons for not passing muster:

1) HP OJPro x576dw - it was $500 on Amazon and failed because the menu didn't have a one touch scan function and because it had a tenuous relationship with the HP printing software (which was pretty horrible). It lasted three days in service.

2) Canon imageCLASS MF8580Cdw - $370 on Amazon. The printer has a cooling fan than kept kicking on which in the sanctuary of his office apparently sounded like a jet liner. This printer lasted 1.5 hours before being carried out by yours truly at the behest of the boss.

3) Epson WorkForce WF-3620 - $115 on Amazon. This printer was selected because of...

Hey guys,

I just set up Print Management on our virtualized Windows 2008 R2 DC. There's a mix of 50 printers (majority HP, with a mix of Konica Minolta, Ricoh, and Zebra), all installed with the x86 and x64 drivers.

Since administrator access is needed by default to install print drivers, I disabled point and print restrictions via Group Policy as per Microsoft's instructions in their "Print Management Step by Step" guide. I even took things a step further and enabled the "System/Driver Installation" group policy setting to "Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these device setup classes" though I am not 100% if this policy is even necessary.

Anyways, most printers are installing perfectly just by adding the network printer wizard and clicking on the printers published in Active Directory. But of course, not everything is...

We have over a dozen Zebra GK420d label printers that constantly fall off our network for no apparent reason. They have been functioning perfectly until now and nothing has changed on our network that would cause this to happen.

We got a lot of use out of the 4350, but it's finally time to get a new printer for our disbursement checks.  Our monthly batch is upwards of 3500 checks, so we need something high volume.  We use pre-printed checks so we don't need MICR toner.

Our budget puts $2000 towards an HP M603 with 1500 sheet tray, but I'm trying to review the decision.  Has anyone had problems with this model, or have any other recommendations?

I have someone who has been trying to push for printing over the network from one facility to the next. I have been preaching that this is not a good idea and have shut it down every time. I have seen several times in the past when an accidental print job goes haywire and clogs a printer full of hundreds of pages of nothing, the same thing, etc... I don't want my metro Ethernet connection to be bogged down by a simple 1 page print job that turns into an accidental 1000 page network nightmare. Does anyone have a best practice on this? Should I be looking into a solution instead of becoming the problem? I feel this is a legitimate concern of my companies network which also has VoIP and ticketing/credit cards.

I had a tech come out from our printer vendor to look at our Ricoh 3353 because the fax was not working properly. What he did was turn off ECM, unfortunately I was not standing there watching him at the exact moment he did this. That means I have no clue how to replicate this process. I have a feeling I need to enter SP Mode (Service Mode) and flip some bit or something. 

Does anyone know how to enter Service Mode or how to turn off/on ECM on this model?

Hello all,

We are having issues with our fax facility. The Fax is not sending the files and keep says waiting to redail. The error code is t13.

Has anyone had this issue

We have a custom image set for the LCD's on our Sharp copiers.  I'd like to update it, and for the life of me cannot find where it is set.  Does anyone else know?

I'll keep looking, but it could be hidden in any one of a million places.

We have three XEROX WorkCentre 75xx series devices in our environment. For several months we have been experiencing long delays between the time a document is scanned ata machine and when it arrives, via our local Exchange 2010 server, in the user mailbox.

This most often happens on the machine users do the most scanning on in the office.

We have done packet captures between the device and the Exchange server and it appears the delay is on the Xerox device as there is no SMTP conversation until just before the document is sent to Exchange.Once this happens, the document arrives in the destination mailbox. In the interim, on the device, the scan job shows a "processing" status.

We have also experimented by connecting the device to different switches, using different cable paths to the switch, and even rebooting Exchange mid-day to see if...

I was setting up Keepass today so I'd have all my sensitive passwords kept away from some other guys in my department. I was taking down the printer admin password when I noticed I hadn't changed it from default when it first arrived a couple of months ago. I reset the password to a generic on I use for other printers but it has locked me out. I don't know whether I typed it wrong twice or what but it doesn't work.

Xerox documentation is useless. There is something in the manual about 'Service Resets' but this just takes you to somewhere you have to sign in to change.

Does anyone know how to reset this machine to factory defaults?

I'm looking for some suggestions for hosted Fax solutions that could replace our on premise GFI Faxmaker server. The solution needs to work similar to how faxmaker does. The users would be able to fax by sending an email to a faxnumber@thefaxhostsdomain.

We would like to be able to receive faxes to a shared ftp location as well.

We will be porting our existing phone numbers, so keeping our existing numbers is a requirement.

What does everyone else use and what are the pros and cons to the service?

I am very new to Spiceworks.  How do I set up tracking cartridges.  I'm using Excel but it's cumbersome and not tied into Spiceworks.  I see Spiceworks alerts you when cartridges are low so I'm hoping I can tie the cartridge inventory into Spiceworks.

Hi is there any software out there that can detect if a printer is connected, which port its connected on usb/serial/lpt and will tell the technician the make and model so that they can install the missing drivers.
i do a lot of remote support and something that did that would make my job a lot easier.
