Enterprise hp printer network issue

I have a client who is using an HP CM3530fs (Color LaserJet). Works completely fine as a standalone printer/scanner/fax. After I attach a network cable, it spits out a 49.4C02 error which says it requires a restart. The actual time which is required for the error to pop up varies, but it seems to be triggered by data transfer to the device. A ping test to the device while the error is up comes back fine. I've tried switching back and forth between manual and DHCP for IP. I've tried updating the firmware, but I'm not sure its taking because even though the computer end says it has completed, the device remains with the error up, and comes right back upon restart with the cable inserted. Network is all devices go to a netgear prosafe gigabit switch (brand new), which is connected to a modem (nothing fancy). No domain, 3 standalone...
